Thank you Very Much
@Teddyboy Jim: Thank you for sharing, but, please, don't post fake bitrates. Your "flac" files are in reality .128kbps.
@Uncle Gil: How do you find out if these are fake flac files? I don't really know. Some of the Music I had were really originally 128, which I had converted
Uncle Gil, Love these label compilations that you do, especially the labels where country music wasn't their main output.
Nobody's pefect Teddyboy Jim, No rule it has to be flac, It all increased as the internet got faster and more space to play with, wind the clock back a few years, most you hear today are only reconverted from 128, If the album was rare enough and it was 96 it would still be snapped up.
@Teddyboy Jim.
That's the problem. You say you're re-encoding files that were originally in .128. You're not adding any quality by encoding in .flac or higher bitrate. The frequencies that disappeared with 128 aren't restored. And as puterbutt suggests, making files unnecessarily larger is not good for the planet.
@puterbutt: Thank you for your answer. I've been tidying up the hard disks for a while now and sorting out the chaos. Some cds that I ripped umpteen years ago have been converted for the new archive. I hope that this has no negative consequences. I rather have the feeling that they sound a bit better
Thanks Uncle, Teddyboy Jim, enjoy it for what it brings you. It's much deeper than it seems and it's harder to be perfect.
